Releasing Body Memory To Increase Health

The body is known to be a complex system of bones, nerves, muscles, organs, cells and tissues. It is also a vehicle to transmit vibration, energy and a highly advance system of communication. Science has discovered that every cell within the body has a mini brain that is capable of transmitting information. The energetic system is in communication with every cell and vise-versa. This communication integrates thoughts, emotions and sensations that create human experience and consciousness.

When a human being has an experience that cannot be fully digested and expressed the experience is not only stored in the mind but also in the cellular memory of the body. Over time a holding on of stressful, overwhelming or traumatic experiences start to wear down the body and mind and may lead to symptoms such as tension, pain, mental-emotional issues such as depression, and PTSD. Research had shown that the root of many diseases are connected to accumulated stress in the tissues. Many symptoms and unhealthy patterns are related to body memory that has accumulated over the years. Eastern medicine and 5 element theory connects different emotions to the organs and systems that they effect. Through treating the energetic system associated with a stuck emotion along with the physical body, accumulated cellular memory can be transformed and released leaving to a new state of freedom and health.

This is done through a combination of therapeutic bodywork, movement, breath work, energy psychology and therapeutic dialogue. I personally use a fusion of Asian bodywork therapy such as shiatsu, reflexology and acupressure along with myofascial release, CranioSacral (CST), therapy, visceral – internal organ release and somatic emotional release (SER). This approach provides a full spectrum of touch modalities integrated with other balancing modalities such as kinesiology and Emotional Freedom Technique, (EFT tapping) which are personally design to meet individuals needs. The goal is to support the release of cellular memory from all systems of the body promoting physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.

Talk therapy is very useful yet limited in that it is only treating the mind and does not release the sensations and issues that are trapped in the body tissues. The mind can rationalize why it “should” or “should not” feel a certain way but it does not stop the body from experiencing it. The power of touch and energetic balancing creates a heightened awareness and releases the unwanted sensations of stored memory from the tissues. The process works by peeling away layers of armoring and stress. Starting with releasing the surface stress or the stress of the moment, day or week. Then working towards peeling away the deeper levels one layer at a time. The goal is also preventive as releasing the stress of the day prevents it from becoming the stress of the future. Each treatment works towards releasing deeper and older layers of accumulated cellular memory. Layers are gently unwound from the body tissues, organs and from the energetic system of meridians and chakras. Meditation and guided breathing techniques may also be introduced to assist in the process. Kinesiology may be used to ask the tissue the age of trauma being held and whether the body is ready to release it. EFT tapping may be taught to assist in the process and give the clients a tool to use on their own between sessions. As cellular memory releases the response from clients may be subtle to dramatic. Sometimes memories are involved and sometimes there is a dramatic shift with no memory of a past experience at all. Entrenched patterns, fears and habits sometimes gracefully transform. Therapeutic dialogue is provided in the form of questions to help the client increase awareness and support the release and integration of body memory transformation.

This process takes time, as years of accumulated cellular stress cannot be released in an instant. To release body memory the nervous system needs to be in a parasympathetic nervous state, which is a state of rest, digest, restore and heal. It takes most people about and hour for the body to start to relax into this state. This is why 2-hour sessions are suggested. It is in the second hour that deep healing, body-mind balancing, energetic harmony, and cellular unwinding begins to happen. Also once the process has been set in motion time is needed to fully release the layer of tension that has surfaced providing the best results. The goal being a state of peace, happiness and overall health.
